I have an exam tomorrow that I haven't prepared for yet. It will be on gender studies, a subject I like to spend time reading.

But I also wanted to say that Coli Powell has resigned his post as US Secretary of State. And it appears that Condi Rice will take over this portfolio. She is seen as a more hawkish members of the Bush team. Remember that she has been the National Security Advisor so far in the first Bush Administration. She, among other lies, told the world about some 'aluminium tubes' that Saddam possessed and could use for buidling 'weapons of mass destruction'. Many observers believe that with her appointment to the top diplomatic position in the US government the Bush Administration will most likely continue with its heavyhanded approach to international affairs. And I think that is one of the most important reasons for Bush picking her up for the job; she is a firm loyalist. Powell has been implicitly talking about the grave mistakes of the Bush Administration and criticizing the either-you-are-with-us-or-with-the-terrorists approach of the Bush-Cheney-Rummy-Wolfie-Pearl and Company.

I don't think Rice's black skin color was a factor in Bush deciding to replace Powell with her. I just don't buy into claims that Bush would try not to alienate the black voters. Bush is a fundamentalist, self-righteous leaders who bases his policy decisions on his faith.
